"I've always liked my women book and street smart
long as they got a little class like half days
and the confidence to overlook my past ways
time heals all, and heels hurt to walk in
but they go with the clutch that you carry your lipgloss in
and look I really think that nobody does it better
I love the way you put it together
Oh you fancy, huh?"
According to Drake (and I DO love what he has to say), fashion is all about how you "put it together" and it's also all about how you carry yourself. If I say I'm fashionable, then by goodness, I AM! Moreover, who cares if my shoes hurt, as long as they go with the purse that I'm carrying and the dress that I'm wearing, right? Thanks for the affirmation, Drake!
Here's how I "put it together" today:
1. I wore my pretty salmon-colored dangly earrings that I got from my sister for (I think) my birthday last year. They came in a set---this means they have a matching bracelet and necklace. Adorable! But, word to the wise, don't ever wear everything (earrings, necklace, AND bracelet) together at the same time! It's just TOO matchy-matchy. Also, a good accessorizing "rule of thumb" is to stop yourself right before you walk out the door and take off one piece of "frosting". This is an especially good rule for any other girls like me who love to accessorize. It will help you from looking like a little girl playing dress-up and putting on everything in the costume box!
2. Next, I topped my dress with ANOTHER dress! (yes, again I did this!) This is a pretty crocheted "thing" from Charlotte Russe. Usually I wear this with a nude slip underneath and that looks pretty cool, but I think that the contrast between the light and dark fabrics really is pretty. I lucked out because they are just about the same length dresses so the black Dress wasn't peeking awkwardly out of the bottom!
3. I wore my black leggings (it was cold when I was getting dressed this AM) and my super comfortable, super awesome "Born" boots. "Born" brand is generally pretty pricey, but I bought these for a STEAL from Marshalls last spring. I love these boots! ( I own a LOT of boots, and besides my brown/black ones that I wear almost daily, these are my favorite pair!)
"Putting it together" isn't all that hard if you just put your mind to it! Getting dressed can either be fun or stressful--I choose fun! I also choose to dress for ME, and that means that as long as I am happy with whatever I see in the mirror, then I don't really care what anyone else says is or is not "fashionable". You should try it sometime. How about tomorrow? Wear something that makes you happy---even if it's only your favorite pair of underwear---no one needs to know why you're smiling, now do they?
Love it...and oh my goodness...your hair is getting LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG!!!!!
